Native movement first
Wheel, trackpad, touch, and keyboard scrolling use the page's normal scrolling behavior. Scrollsmith does not delay or hijack page movement.

Expressive scrollbars should remain usable.
Scrollsmith aims to preserve familiar browser input while giving the scrollbar a distinct visual character.
Our approach
We work toward WCAG 2.2 Level AA where it reasonably applies to the website and extension. This is an ongoing effort, not a certification or guarantee.
Motion has an alternative
Animated themes respond to the system reduced-motion preference. Their essential scrollbar state remains available without continuous animation.
Controls remain visible
The extension provides labeled controls, visible keyboard focus, light and dark values, forced-colors fallbacks, and a global off switch.
Users stay in control
Scrollsmith can be disabled everywhere or on one website. Width, radius, and color controls can improve visibility for individual preferences.
Known limitations
Scrollbar behavior varies across Chrome, operating systems, websites, embedded frames, browser zoom levels, and assistive technology combinations.
- Chrome-owned pages, the Chrome Web Store, and some PDF or embedded surfaces cannot be restyled by extensions.
- A website may override scrollbar styling or use a custom scrolling area that behaves differently from the main page.
- Advanced themes add a visual control layer while keeping the underlying page scroll native. If a page behaves unexpectedly, disable Scrollsmith for that website.
- Automated checks cannot cover every screen reader, input device, browser zoom setting, or high-contrast configuration.
