Theme does not appear
Confirm Scrollsmith is on, remove the hostname from Disabled websites, reload the tab, and test Minimal. If Minimal works but another theme does not, include that theme name in your report.
Troubleshooting
Start simple. Isolate the cause.
Most scrollbar problems come from one disabled setting, a page that was already open, reduced-motion mode, or a website that isolates its own scrolling areas.

Run these checks once.
Stop when the scrollbar starts working. The steps do not delete your account or change Chrome's scrolling behavior.

Confirm the page can be styled
Test a normal http:// or https:// website. Chrome blocks extensions on chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store, browser settings, and some built-in PDF surfaces.

Check both power controls
Open Scrollsmith and make sure the main control says On. Then confirm Disable on this website is off for the current domain.

Reload the website tab
Tabs that were open before installation or an extension update may still have the old content script. Reload once, then test Minimal before returning to another theme.

Check Chrome's extension state
Open chrome://extensions, confirm Scrollsmith is enabled, and use its reload button only if you are testing a local development build. For the official Web Store version, restart Chrome after an update if the old version remains active.

Separate account issues from theme issues
The three Free themes work without signing in. Premium requires an internet connection and a server-verified active account. If Premium is locked, sign in again before changing extension files or browser settings.

Check accessibility settings
Reduced motion intentionally calms or removes theme animation. Forced colors intentionally restores a platform scrollbar for contrast and usability.

Report the smallest reproducible problem
If only one website fails, report its hostname, the theme, the visible symptom, and which checks above you completed. Do not send passwords, private page content, or full URLs containing personal information.
Targeted fixes
Match the symptom.
Premium motion is still
Scroll the page rather than only hovering. Then check operating-system reduced motion, the extension's Motion control, and whether the site is using a nested scroll area. Reduced motion and inactive pages intentionally use static fallbacks.
Premium is unexpectedly locked
Open the extension while online and sign in again. Scrollsmith safely falls back to Free when the account session expires, the API is unavailable, or a subscription is canceled. Reaching a checkout success page alone never grants Premium.
Arrows, dragging, or track clicks fail
Test on a long normal webpage at 100% zoom. Some operating systems hide native arrow buttons, while Chrome-owned or isolated embedded areas cannot be controlled. Wheel, trackpad, and keyboard scrolling should remain available even when a visual control is limited.
One website looks wrong
Disable Scrollsmith on that website as a safe temporary fix. Sites can use high-specificity scrollbar CSS, nested overflow containers, isolated frames, or layouts that change after loading. Report only the hostname and visible behavior.
A different scrollbar flashes first
Reload the extension, close the affected tab, and open the page again. If the flash persists, report whether it occurs on fresh navigation, reload, or browser back/forward so the startup timing can be reproduced.
